Day 5: Carnival Venezia 10-night Eastern Caribbean Cruise
You can jump to a specific day:
Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands

We started off our day with a yummy breakfast at the Lido Marketplace buffet.

As we ate our breakfast, the ship was still heading into the port and we could see someone parasailing not too far from our ship, as you can see in the photo above.
We went back to our cabin to get our stuff ready to go ashore, even though we weren’t docked yet. I’m not sure what the towel animal was, but I like it.

When we went up to an upper deck outside, we were still not docked, but we could see that we were going to be docked next to the Carnival Sunrise.

The water colors are so beautiful in the Caribbean and the Bahamas! It will never get boring to admire. With time to spare while we waited for the all clear to get our butts off the ship, we meandered around the upper decks outside. We went back the the Serenity Deck to see what it looks like during the daytime.

It was around 11:30 am when we were cleared to debark. We decided that we would take a taxi over to the lighthouse on the other side of the island and stop at Coburn Town on the way back, but only if the taxi fare was reasonable. We got off the ship, walked towards the taxi area, then realized we left our cash in our cabin! Argh! So we went back to our cabin and got our cash.
We got off the ship again and walked over to the taxi area. The fee to take the two of us to see the lighthouse with a quick stop in Cockburn Town on the way back was $60. If there had been just one of us the fare would have been $30, and he said if there were four in our taxi it would have been $120 – it was $30 per person regardless of how many people were in the taxi. I prefer when they charge for the ride not based on how many people are in the taxi.
We were hoping to spend about $45 for the taxi ride because it’s not that far of a trip. We have seen lots of lighthouses in our life, and I’ve seen many photos of this lighthouse and the views of the coast from the lighthouse, and not one of the photos impressed either of us. And I’ve read that Cockburn Town is boring. The photos of it certainly don’t make it look interesting. So we decided to not take the taxi.
This was our third time to Grand Turk. We have done a snorkel excursion before on Grand Turk, and visited Gibbs Cay and pet the Stingrays (they swim right up to you!) there and did Conch diving on the way to Gibbs Cay (I didn’t dive, I vomited repeatedly from the side of the boat, but that’s another story), and we spent time at the cruise center last year. When we were at the cruise center last year there was only one ship docked at that port and the pool was jam packed with people as was the entire area around the pool. We were sure it would be way too packed for our enjoyment with two ships docked, so we decided to head back to the ship and get lunch.
It was about 1 pm when we got our lunch, and we clearly were not the only ones who decided to have lunch on the ship. It wasn’t crowded, but there were a decent amount of people up there. We enjoyed our lunch.

After lunch I decided to try one of the frozen drinks from Rococo. With the frozen drinks you can order one flavor or any combination of flavors that you would like and they layer the flavors on top of each other in the order you request. I ordered mine with Pina Colada and Limoncello Kiss. Neither flavor was great, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. (I talked more about Rococo on the story for day four of this trip, so you can click on the button for day four to read more about it, with more photos.)

We got changed and my husband played basketball while I exercised then casually walked around the ship and took photos. The sunset was beautiful.

After getting cleaned up and ready for dinner, we checked out the Lido Marketplace dinner buffet menu and decided to eat there for dinner. (You can see the Main Dining Room menu for dinner that night in some of the photos above.) We were both very happy with everything we put on our plates at the Lido Marketplace buffet. The penne bolognese was better than I thought it would be.

My husband got a tuna melt from the deli and he enjoyed that as well.

Then I got dessert from Sweet Spot. The Praline Cake was soooo delicious that I went back for more. It’s more like a tasty mousse than a cake, but whatever it is, I loved it! Their sugar cookies are yummy too. They taste more like brown sugar cookies than regular sugar cookies. Then we had a cocktail and got ready for bed.
